Implementing the directive of the Prime Minister and leaders of the Ministry of Public Security on continuing the "automatic temporary residence” for stranded foreigners affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, the Immigration Department announces:
- Foreign nationals who enter Vietnam on the basis of visa exemption policy, e-visas or tourist visas from 1st March 2020 are now benefitted from the continued automatic temporary residence extension until the end of 31 July 2020. Entrants may exit during the said period without having to carry out procedures for extending the temporary residence.
- In case of entries before 1 March 2020, entrants, who can prove that they are stranded due to the Covid-19 epidemic, with proof certified by the diplomatic mission with a diplomatic note (with Vietnamese translation) or written confirmation of Vietnamese authorities on quarantine, Covid-19 treatment or other force majeure reasons, are also considered "automatic extension of temporary residence" until 31 July 2020 (Official notes or confirmation notes as above must be presented upon exit).
- Foreign nationals during the "automatic temporary residence extension" period must declare temporary residence and medical declaration as regulated.
- Foreign nationals not belonging to aforementioned categories or commiting violations of laws shall comply with the current provisions of Vietnamese law.
