The Philippine Embassy in Vietnam

Commemorates the 127th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Dr. Jose P. Rizal

The officers and family members of the Philippine Embassy in Hanoi commemorated the 127th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Philippine national hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal with a flag raising and wreath-laying ceremony. The solemn event was led by H.E. Ambassador Meynardo LB. Montealegre who gave a welcome remark extolling the meaningful life of the Philippines’ national hero and his invaluable contribution to Philippine history.

Focusing on the theme “Rizal: Pundasyon ng Kahapon. Isinasabuhay Ngayon” (Rizal: Foundation of the Past, Living Today), Ambassador Montealegre reflected on the short yet meaningful life of Rizal who was executed by the Spanish colonizers at the age of 34.

Rizal’s short existence here on Earth exemplifies the true values of a selfless and patriotic individual, proving that the meaning of our existence is not measured by how long we lived but by how we have lived to make a lasting contribution to fellow men.”

The commemoration was attended by Post’s officers, staff, and family members. Ms. Maria Lourdes Villaroman, great great great grandniece of Dr. Jose P. Rizal through Rizal’s sister, Saturnina Rizal-Hidalgo, attended the event. Ms. Villaroman was in Hanoi with her daughter, Ms. Beatrice Villaroman.
