The event proceeded with the raising of the Philippine flag and the singing of the Lupang Hinirang, led by soprano duo “The Nightingales”, Ms. Bernadette M. Mamauag and Ms. Katrina Marie T. During the program proper, Ambassador Montealegre delivered his inspirational message focusing on the significance of reliving the Philippines’ struggle for independence, freedom, and sovereignty, in line with the theme Kalayaan, Kasaysayan, Kinabukasan, and under the Bagong Pilipinas.

Among the highlights of the event was the unveiling of the replica of the 1734 Murillo Map, which was donated by Mr. Mel E. Velarde and the announcement of the winner of the Logo Making Contest spearheaded by the Embassy in preparation for the 50th anniversary of Philippines-Vietnam diplomatic relations next year. Ms. Angeilly D. Villezon, a Filipino teacher working in Hanoi, outbidded 25 other entries for the said contest.
